Ultimate Ninja vs. Oroku Saki

Description

New York City, USA

Dimension:  Third Earth

A man in heavy armour prowled the rooftops of the City, searching for clues as to the
whereabouts of his nemeses, any clue that could assist with his self-imposed mission of
bringing about their Deaths.

“Oroku Saki!”  A voice called out to him, a voice that belonged to a red-haired young man
whose face was hidden behind a mask, leaving only his fierce green eyes to be easily
noticed.

“Who might you be?”  Saki probed, determined to know what this man wanted with him, his
voice distorted by the helmet that covered his face.

“I am the Ultimate Ninja, Shredder, I travel the Multiverse to seek out the strongest
opponents of each world!”  Was his simple response.

“You, dare to challenge me?”  Saki almost laughed at the thought.

“Yes.  In a Mortal Duel.”  Oroku Saki appeared to take a moment to consider the
challenge.  “Do you accept?”  Ve pressed on.

“I accept.  But know this, you will meet your demise at my hand!”

A moment later, and they were in position, their main weapons ready, a silent mention
between them signalling the start of their battle.

A series of slashes and parries were made between them, each one trying to pry an opening
for a killing blow.  During this, Ve kept an eye on The Shredder’s tactics.

‘Heavy attacks, but needs that armour for defence.’  He worked out that his foe kept
leaving openings for something to slip in, but there was little he could do to exploit
that, said armour being the reason.

Then The Shredder made a wide sweeping slash, and Ve had to duck then jump away to keep
the blade from slicing into him.  But the distance between them now meant that he had a
small opportunity to think an attack plan through.

Sheathing his katana for the time being, Ve brought out his manriki and set himself up.
Once he was in position, he swung the weapon and snared The Shredder around his knees.
Though he was able to maintain his balance, the distraction allowed Ve to bring his
katana out again to attempt a decapitation.  Unfortunately for Ve, The Shredder was able
to free himself and block his attack, before he brought out his own sword to strike him
down.

Ve was forced to leap back to avoid The Shredder’s slash, but he still took a slight
graze to his shoulder.  Biting back the sting, he kept the distance between them as he
sought out an opening for an attack.

‘All that heavy armour.  I have to get through it.  Just stay calm, you’ll get a chance
sooner or later.’  He reminded himself as he had to back away again to dodge another
assault.

His own mask had cost him a potential opportunity, he realised, since he couldn’t hide
anything in it to at least stun his opponent for long enough to make a strong attack.
Even so, he wasn’t willing to simply give up.  He couldn’t.  Taking a huge, but
calculated risk, Ve allowed the gap between himself and The Shredder to close.  The
moment he was close enough, Ve produced the mixture of red pepper and dust from a small
concealed pouch, and threw the mix into his eyes.

Inwardly enjoying the cry of pain from The Shredder, Ve now took his swords and made his
move, only to have it blocked.

“Did you think such a trick would work!?”  The Shredder demanded of him, attempting a
punch with his spiked glove that would have pieced deeply, had Ve not been able to roll
himself out of the path in time.

Ve was becoming frustrated now.  This battle was dragging on for too long now, and he was
beginning to tire.  Worse still, The Shredder still appeared to be at full strength.  In
spite of his armour and helmet hiding almost all of him, he could still discern the fact
that his stamina and agility had yet to waver.  What this told him was that he needed to
end this battle quickly if he wanted any chance of victory, and he had even less time to
find a means to make it so!

Eyes frantically darting around, desperately searching out something that could turn the
tide into his own favour.  He managed to get a focus on another rooftop, one that was
much more cluttered.

‘Good,’  He worked out his plan of action.  ‘I can use that field to my advantage.’

The delay though, was costly.  As The Shredder closed the gap between them and thrust a
clawed gauntlet at him, Ve barely had enough warning to dodge a fatal blow, through he
still took a piercing hit to his upper left arm.

Biting back the pain, he leapt back to reopen the gap and give himself some much needed
room to manoeuvre.  Putting all the power he could into his tired legs, Ve raced for the
ledge and hurled himself at the new field.

The Shredder seemed to take a moment to check the distance before leaving, most likely to
get a good run before his own leap.  That gave Ve some much needed time to recover.  His
left arm didn’t move with much fluidity now, and it did feel like The Shredder had cut
deep.  He would have to just work around the problem for now.

Moving his unbroken blade to his good arm, he readied himself as The Shredder leapt down
to join him.

‘But if I  don’t finish him in the next minute or two, them I’m the one who’ll perish.’
Ve silently noted the danger to himself, summoning all his remaining strength and
endurance for one final push.

As The Shredder raced towards him, Ve lowered himself seemingly preparing to leap over
him once the distance was closed.  ‘Right, about, now!’  Pouring power into his legs, Ve
leapt hard to the side and attempted a slash across The Shredder where his heavy armour
was thinner.

Though the blade connected, it still slid across, Ve’s aim just a little off from the
lighter-armoured armpit.  Maintaining his momentum, he dropped into a roll before taking
cover behind a raised air conditioning outlet.

“Show yourself and fight like a man!”  The voice of The Shredder demanded, having not
seen where Ve had moved to cover.  “Where are you!?”

This was better for Ve, with another moment to recover, he could prepare for his next
attack, bringing out his new weapon of choice, he trained his ears to the sounds of The
Shredder’s vocal demands and heavy movement.

‘Only once chance to make this work, wait for it.’  Ve mentally recall a lesson from his
youth, about waiting until the opportunity to attack presented itself.  Eyes closed, and
breathing even and measured, he focused his senses on The Shredder.

As soon as Ve determined that he was in the right place, he sprang out from his hiding
spot, hurling his shurikens at him with the skill of one who had long since mastered the
use of the weapon, its six points burred to look like one large wheel as it struck its
intended target, its partner next to it and through his eyes.  The resultant blinding of
his opponent left him flailing his arms, perhaps hoping that he could still strike Ve
down.

Bringing his Katana to his good arm, Ve timed his next move, racing forwards when he saw
the chance arrive, forcing every last drop of energy he had into that arm, as he made the
slash by The Shredder’s neck, though he did still receive a gash along his side for his
efforts.

As Ve turned to face The Shredder, aiming to end it, he seemed to sway slightly, before
his head dropped down, and clean off his body.  The rest of him followed it to the ground
soon after, his head having rolled slightly to the side where Ve could see it.  With one
hand on his injured arm, Ve looked down on the body of his opponent.

“Oroku Saki.  You lose.”  He declared more to himself than anyone else as he limped away
to return to the Battle Nexus.  His mission completed.

Somewhere hidden within the shadows and beyond the sight of the two combatants, a figure
whose features could not be discerned thanks to a heavy blue-grey cloak that covered the
entire body, save for a pair of green eyes that seemed to glow slightly, a deep guttural
growl emanating from the one in question.

‘That was interesting.  You may prove useful to me.’  Was the individual’s thoughts as
heavy footsteps signalled its leaving the area.

Some time later, with Ve, and indeed anyone else beyond sight, the body of Oroku Saki,
the Shredder slowly rose off the rooftop grounds.  Standing up, it seemed to know not
only where it was, but where to go.  Taking strong measured steps, it made its way to
where his helmeted head lay, before bending down to pick it up.  Placing it carefully
under the right arm, before turning to leave before anyone noticed.
